Can I enroll in the Master SUBE when I'm still enrolled in my bachelor's programme?

International students can only enroll when they have completed their bachelor programme (except students from the Netherlands and Luxemburg).

If you are a currently enrolled in a bachelor in de bio-ingenieurswetenschappen (Flemish), then you can already enroll in the Master’s programme after requesting permission by the Faculty through this form. Please take a close look at the sequentiality of the master’s courses when combining the two programmes.

How often do I have to commute for this interuniversity programme?

The Master’s program in SUBE aims to organise its programme with a focus on sustainable and efficient commuting as much as possible. In the first semester of the first year, all courses take place at the University of Antwerp. This means that you will only need to commute between Campus Groenenborger and the City Campus. The second semester of the second year is divided into two periods of six weeks each. In the first six weeks, you will attend CityLab 2 – Urban Resources, coordinated by Ghent University. For this, you will have classes in Antwerp on Mondays and Tuesdays, and in Ghent on Wednesdays and Thursdays. During the last six weeks of the second semester, you will attend CityLab 3 – Human Health and Urban Liveability, coordinated by KU Leuven. For this, you will need to travel to Leuven a few times (no fixed days), but always for a full day. The specific class schedule for each course will be explained during the introductory lecture.

Fun fact: taking the commuting time into account, classes in Ghent and Leuven usually do not start before 10:00!

In the second year of the master’s programme, you can design your own schedule through elective courses. This means you can decide how often you need to commute. Each university offers different elective courses.

Where can I find a model timetable?

You can find a model time table here.

Note: the exact time table in the second year will depend on your choice of electives.

How can I travel between the three universities?

Since we value sustainability in this master’s programme, we recommend travelling between the campuses via public transport as much as possible. You can check which formula suits you best via the website of the NMBS (Belgian train company). Are you younger than 26? Then the Student Multi pass (formerly known as Campus card) is probably the most advantageous. To apply for this pass, you need proof of registration at all three institutions: main registration at the University of Antwerp and a guest registration at Ghent University and KU Leuven. On the main registration, it should be stated that this master’s programme is jointly organized by these three universities.
